- sunsets like this one, I am told the sunrises are just as beautiful
- less washing, the kids have taken to sitting around in their underwear
- my notoriously poor daily consumption of water has increased
- the tomatoes are ripening, three weeks ago I thought I'd be making green tomato chutney
- the strengthening of community ties - exchanging "isn't it hot" with "I haven't had a good night's sleep for weeks" with people in the street
- every quilt and blanket in the house has been laundered as they are drying in half a day
- less shopping as our apetites have diminshed to frozen fruit sticks and tomatoes on toast
- daily 30 minutes quiet reading is easily achieved as the kids are too shattered to do anything else
- Michael and I are reminded of home and our stinking hot childhood summers
- a chance to be grateful for the little things - our verandah, an evening breeze, ice cubes
- kids running under sprinklers while Michael and I sit on the steps drinking cold beer and cider

It's nice to see a list of the good things about the heat. I love the heat but boy was I ready for the cool change!
ReplyDeletestunning image, carol darling. Gorgeous reflections on a difficult fews of hotter than hot. If only it was cool at night it would have been more bearable. I am aching for autumnal beauty now. Hopefully the autumn equinox on March 20 heralds those heavenly soft-light twighlights and foggy mornings that compliment the garden transformations that make this time of year such a treat. For now, happy to squeeze in a few more beach days with the wonderful cherubs. x
ReplyDeleteI love this photo, they look like happy, nice Triffids (not nasty ones)
